Rookies bring it to the seasoned pros
The anticipation for the 2024 Northern Talent Cup season reached a high as the pre-season test concluded at Oschersleben. The test showcased the emerging talents in Northern Europe, with experienced campaigners and promising rookies vying for supremacy on track.
With riders from seven different nationalities making their mark in the top ten, the diversity of talent was evident. Among them were three Germans, an Italian, a Dutchman, a Frenchman, an Austrian, two Swiss riders. The Cup, now in its fifth year, also boasts the addition of its first Swedish racer in the category.
A notable highlight of the test was the stellar performance of the rookies, with five newcomers securing spots in the top ten. Leading this charge was the sensational Ben Weiger (JB-Racing), who stormed to the top of the timesheets. Close behind was Italian rider Matteo Masili (MM Racing Team), followed by Dutchman Jurrien Van Crugten (BB64 Academy).
The introduction of three new partners to the category was met with positive reception. Honda unveiled their latest motorcycle, lauded by riders for its speed, agility, and overall performance. Pirelli joined as the new tyre provider, showcasing their capabilities with both wets and slicks during the mixed weather conditions of the test. Additionally, Motul joined as the new lubricant provider, frictionlessly integrating into the Northern Talent Cup family.
Despite a few spills on the track, riders all ok, the test proceeded smoothly, buoyed by mostly sunny and warm weather. The wet conditions during the first day’s session provided valuable experience for riders to familiarise themselves with the Pirelli wet tyres, adding an extra layer of excitement to the proceedings.
As the season opener at Motul TT Circuit Assen alongside WorldSBK approaches in two weeks, anticipation mounts for what promises to be another exciting chapter in the NTC’s five-year journey. With riders swiftly adapting to the new Honda NSF250 and the support of our esteemed partners, the Northern Talent Cup is poised for another thrilling season ahead.
